MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Sunday warned of dangerous heat index levels in 20 areas in the country.
Heat index refers to the temperature felt by the human body when relative humidity combines with air temperature.
In its 5 a.m. forecast, PAGASA said the following areas may have heat indices ranging from 42°C to 45°C on Sunday:
Sangley Point, Cavite – 44°C
Virac, Catanduanes – 44°C
San Ildefonso, Bulacan – 44°C
Dagupan City, Pangasinan – 43°C
Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas – 43°C
Cuyo, Palawan – 43°C
Masbate City, Masbate – 43°C
Roxas City, Capiz – 43°C
Iloilo City, Iloilo – 43°C
Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – 42°C
Cubi Pt., Subic Bay, Olongapo City – 42°C
Bacnotan, La Union – 42°C
ISU, Echague, Isabela – 42°C
Baler, Aurora – 42°C
TAU Camiling, Tarlac – 42°C
San Jose, Occidental Mindoro – 42°C
Puerto Princesa, Palawan – 42°C
Dumangas, Iloilo – 42°C
Catarman, Northern Samar – 42°C
NAIA Pasay City, Metro Manila – 42°C
Pagasa categorizes areas with a 42°C to 51°C heat index under the danger category, while areas with 33°C to 41°C fall under the “extreme caution” category.
Heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible in areas under extreme caution, while heat stroke is a potential risk under the danger level.

The weather bureau cautioned the public against spending time outdoors, especially at noon.
The public is advised to drink plenty of water, while those going outdoors are reminded to use umbrellas or wear hats and sleeved clothing.
Meanwhile, in its 4 a.m. weather forecast, Pagasa said the easterlies would bring isolated rains and thunderstorms across the country.
No tropical storm or low-pressure area is being monitored within the Philippine Area of Responsibility, it added.
